Three Wishes
I don’t know about you all, but the notion of having finding a magic lantern somewhere buried under the mothballs in the attic always seemed awesome to me. I had my wishes all picked out, too.
1. One Million Dollars
2. A Pony
3. Unlimited Wishes
I realize that last one is probably cheating, but c’mon, what are the odds that you meet a genie anyway?
You want to know what is *almost* as good as a genie? An engineering team.
Since the launch of our editor’s platform in April, we’ve watched editors sign on hand over fist. Most of us here at Topix edit multiple pages as well. There might even be a few wagers and healthy competitions in our office with regard to the superiority of our own particular pages. In other words, we are using the tools too, and we all develop our own wishlists of what we think could make the editing tools better, faster, more fun, etc etc etc. Our lists are great, but they might be clouded by our close quarters and overabundant supply of sugary snacks. I know that Red Bull clouds my judgment without fail.
What we would like to know is what you wish for with regard to the Editor’s platform. Are there things you feel could make the process more intuitive for you? What could make the system better? What do you think would make Editing even more addictive? Are there any other site features you would like to see for Editors? I know one that is mentioned to me from time to time is an Editor’s forum where you can “talk amongst yourselves” and support one another as you become master news makers. Let’s have it. What are your three wishes?

I have requested this before. Maybe I can get some support here.
I would like to see an indicator when there is something new in "News Tips".

An option to kill stories on the actual forum would be nice. Currently the Autos forum contains a few irrelevant stories brought on by a persistent troll. Control of such impolite and/or negative commentary, I feel, would be a great service to the legitimate posters and act as an invite to other posters who otherwise stay away due to negativity.

I agree with Frank. Please, please give the ability to help monitor the forums. In my community's forum, we've got "way, way, out-of-town squatters" who are using our forum space for their own personal messageboard/flamewars/agenda. They've driven off all community interested individuals by constantly promoting up the forum their private off-topic discussions. We really need help taking back our community forums.

Thanks folks!
@jolsen - That's a great idea. I'd be really interested in hearing how you have been using tips in general.
@frank & Coastallife - Adding permissions for moderation is definitely something that we are looking towards in the future. That has actually always been part of our eventual plan for Editors. We're working on the best way to make that happen and also on some internal tools to enable the function. Stay with us!

I have been a moderator, admin, and an owner of various forums for the last several years. I enjoy the ability to add stories on Topix. However, like any forum, Topix gets it's share of trolls and TOS violations. Because Topix is quickly becoming a popular way for people to get their news junkie fix, I fear with out some ability to moderate at the "Page" level we could indeed lose valuable creditabilty. Within my own Topix community, it has already started to happen. Our Topix corner of the web is quite popular and really turning heads. Unfortunatly it is often for the wrong reasons.
Here is my "wish list"
1) give editors the ability to pull posts if they have been flagged
2) give the person who is flagging said post a pop that asks whay the post is flagged
3) Automated Email to the editors showing what number post has been flagged, reason, and a direct link
I know that would require some pretty big software changes, but.....YOU GUYS CAN DO IT, I have faith!

There are not many tips so I have to make myself check. I do not want to discourage anyone who wants to leave tips so I have posted all of them since they were reasonably interesting.

I agree with Frank, and Coastlallife, country music forum has been filled by Hannah Montan topics, and I managed to clean up the Hannah news items, but I still have a forum filled with "Hannah Montana rocks" style topics. I can't wait for the ability to keep the forums as clean as the rest of the page.
